For this first collection, we wanted to keep everything as local as possible. So everything is sourced and manufactured in Canada. However, that also meant there were a lot fewer choices as compared to sourcing overseas.
This might just look like a regular fabric, but it took many visits over a couple of years until we found this luxe linen blend. It's
- 55% Linen, 45% Cotton
- Flax used in this quality linen is pesticide free, imported from Europe, cultivated without irrigation, and GMO-free
- Breathable and biodegradable
So why did it take so long to land on this fabric?
Because functionality is at the heart of this brand, and ease of maintenance was one of the key factors that most fabrics couldn't pass.
- We performed our high-tech wrinkle examination (aka. scrunching the fabric by hand)
- Put it through a rigorous see-through test (aka placing the Latte colour on top of a darker fabric)
- Did a shrinkage test on it to make sure it doesn't shrink too significantly.
- Ensured that the colourways fit the brand's mandate of "interesting neutrals".
Although the fabric isn't entirely wrinkle-free (and no natural fabric will be, even some polyesters aren't) because it's a linen blended with cotton, you get the best of both worlds: a structured look without the sharp creases. (You know what I'm talkin' about, how your pants get all creased up the moment you sit in your car!)
