I wasn't expecting this, but after pitching SHORTLISTED among 50 other startups, we made it to the Startup Canada pitch finals!
It was such a cool experience being onstage, sharing the message that petite clothing is a real need to a large crowd.
There are so many things I could've talked about, including our sustainable fabrics or ethical manufacturing, but I knew to address the main question to people who aren't short would be: why does the world need a petite-only brand?
Although I didn't win, I was so proud that this was my first time pitching and I made it to the finals!
After the competition ended, so many short women came up to me to talk about how they felt so seen when they were watching my pitch.
I learned that pedal extensions exist! They're attachments you add to your car so you can reach the gas pedals.
Might sound silly, but we talked about how when we drove older cars, far-away pedals caused us to torque our bodies while driving, therefore we needed to go to physio to 'fix' our bodies. And that's from performing an everyday task.
What really made my day was that all 5 finalists were WOMEN! And I wasn't the only petite there, nor was mine the only apparel brand there ;)
This is me moments after finishing my first-round pitch to the judges. I've got a giant smile on my face because I finished the pitch under the time limit—with seconds to spare! That was really my goal, to nail the pitch and perform it like clockwork.
Advancing to the finals was the cherry on top.
